Shampoo Bars: The New Way to Refuse Plastic

The “plastic revolution” is sweeping the world, with countries and even the European Union banning single-use plastics. Food-related plastics such as disposable cups and straws are the target for these types of bans. Now, environmentalists of all interests and professions are turning their eye toward bathroom plastics. Bar soap is making a comeback, with shampoo bars being the latest new craze. They look like traditional soap but act like a shampoo with some of the same ingredients you find in the bottle!

Shampoo bars come in all kinds of scents with different kinds of benefits depending on your hair type. The ultra-concentrated formulas also last much longer, with some lasting over a year!

To keep your shampoo bar completely plastic-free, pick up unwrapped shampoo bars at local stores and bring your own reusable bag! Metal or plastic tins, such as empty Altoid tins, are a great way to store your brand-new shampoo bar. As the bar soap eventually shrinks, you can stitch together a washcloth “snuggie” to get to every last bit of shampoo.
