Nature’s Academy is proud to announce that our Founder and Executive Director, Dana Pounds, is the 1st place winner in the individual category for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Gulf Guardian Awards! The Gulf Guardian Awards were created through the Gulf of Mexico Program to recognize businesses, organizations and individuals that go above and beyond the call of duty to keep the Gulf of Mexico healthy and productive.
The mission of the Gulf of Mexico Program is “to protect, maintain, and restore the health and productivity of the Gulf of Mexico in ways consistent with the economic well-being of the Gulf region.” Award recipients not only promote these ideas, but educate others on the importance of taking an active role in protecting our future.
Dana is being recognized for her multiple achievements in STEM and marine science based education. Since founding Nature’s Academy in 2007, Dana has continuously inspired and empowered students to become the next generation of environmental stewards of the Florida Gulf Coast. Her legacy will endure for generations and is a testament to her dedication and love for never giving up and persevering no matter the struggle. These life lessons are shared with all participants in our Nature’s Academy programs and further our mission of impacting our community and beyond. In order to make a difference in our world, we must stand together and rise above.
